Description

Dprisa is a seller center company for people that want to sell online without the hassle of logistics or shipping management, from marketplace management to fulfillment. Dprisa does all the promotion and management required so sellers can focus on the quality of their products. Dprisa also distributes and sells through more than eight marketplaces in Latin America.

About the project

Dprisa trusted Digita Studio with a more manageable, intuitive solution. They needed a tool to manage their inventory and capture their clients' products. Their current workload required a whole team to review dense spreadsheets full-time, and it soon became unfeasible. Every Marketplace has different rules, and each product needs to cater to every set of parameters available. After seeing the potential of the project roadmap, the results of the information gathered,  and the possibility of streamlining the processes. Dprisa's team couldn't wait to go beyond the initial proposal. What started as an ERP ended up being a cloud-based SaaS platform.

Our Exploratory Research indicated that many areas had tried to solve the inventory upload process many times, with varying results. Their current attempts to address this issue included dispersing the workload by hiring more people, standardizing the channel using spreadsheet templates, or training the customers to optimize the input. These were all good parts of the solution, and a platform that would unify, optimize and automatize their products and submissions would be our best shot.

The Dprisa Admin ERP platform helps new sellers to upload their products and fill in all required criteria with the assistance of Dprisa's team. Dprisa's team could manage users, products, and inventory. Depending on the subscription level of the sellers, they could manage orders, payments, customer support, or even delivery fulfillment. Accounting reconciliation allowed the team to relate orders, payments, and commissions, all in a single place.

On the Seller side of the platform, Sellers track orders and payments on the platform through status and visualize sales total on a personalized dashboard. Their Dashboard would show their performances as a seller on shipment and timely delivery only if they didn't subscribe to the fulfillment membership.

Main Design Challenge

How might we optimize the product upload forms for bulk uploads and categorization without overwhelming them?

A regular product upload ranges from 50 to 200 products. Each Marketplace has different requirements for its upload form. Some marketplaces need ten input fields, while others have double or triple the fields. Since Dprisa uploads products simultaneously to 10 marketplaces, this task could become overwhelming quickly. The upload process needed a smooth, intuitive, and feedback-rich experience.

The design team needed to understand all form requirements. Through diagramming and mapping all marketplace requirements, we found recurring requirements and bits of information that could optimize the upload process. Next, we interviewed sellers familiar with the previous upload process to understand their main pains throughout the process. Finally, we interviewed Dprisa's team to identify internal problems with the uploading process. Both insights allowed us to fully understand the process, problem, jobs, pains, and gains.

The solution consisted in an onboarding process that helped sellers choose their marketplaces of preference and product categories to see all required fields. A smart spreadsheet would then greet them to upload their products. This smart spreadsheet has prioritized values and precise tooltips with examples and error state for specific data types. In addition, sellers could download a spreadsheet template and import it once it's filled.

The smart spreadsheet evaluates imported data to identify errors, missing inputs, and duplicated values. Identifying errors and missing values would significantly reduce upload time and prevent delays. After error correction, Sellers could press a button to upload their data to their selected marketplaces in minutes. The internal team tested this feature extensively, and it quickly became a favorite.

Conclusion

Dprisa became a loyal customer after its first iteration. They saw the value of optimization through mapping, data gathering, and User research. Many iterations came after. Digita Studio and Dprisa continued their digital transformation for three more years. Even after rough times, Dprisa would prioritize its digitalization to cut costs. This mindset showed an actual culture change and a deep appreciation for User-Driven Design and Progressive Development.
